A few more things to bring back post-Brexit...
The Telegraph has called for the reinstatement of Imperial weights and measures when Britain leaves the European Union. But why stop there? It's only a matter of time before Brexiteers start to demand that the following things be reintroduced:
- Pre-decimalisation currency (A parliamentary petition on this topic got 19 signatures in 2012)
- Corporal punishment in schools (Predictably, someone has already called for this, maybe as a joke, in the comment section on the Sun's website)
- Hanging (Ditto)
- Smoking in pubs (one of Nigel Farage's favourite policies)
- Drink driving (Ditto)
- The gold standard (Several non-mainstream news services have interpreted comments made by Alan Greenspan as supporting this)
- Absolute monarchy (Someone has suggested this on Twitter)
- Workhouses
- The slave trade
Looking forward to the Telegraph campaign to extend to these important issues! Let me know if I've missed any...
