Kensington and Chelsea vote to join Russia

The people of Kensington and Chelsea yesterday voted overwhelmingly (99.99%) in favour of becoming part of the Russian Federation. The London borough, whose population is mostly Russian-speaking anyway, has become increasingly disillusioned with the Western-leaning government in Westminster. "The clue is in the name!" pointed out Aleksandr Oligarchski, the staunchly pro-Moscow leader of the borough council.
The British government refuses to acknowledge the legitimacy of the referendum, but is said to be afraid to impose tough sanctions in case it affects the housing market.
Meanwhile in the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin is said to be considering sending troops to the disputed territory to eject the Metropolitan Police and raise the Russian flag over Chelsea Barracks. "This would only be to protect the Russian majority's right not to pay any taxes," said a spokesman.
